01 / Public browsing
Looking at art does not require an identity.
Public browse pages do not require an account, name, or email address. Meta Museum primarily works with museum collection metadata, provider source URLs, generated diagnostics, and review evidence needed to keep public claims auditable.
Ordinary hosting and security infrastructure may still process technical request information such as an IP address, browser details, requested URL, and time of access. Meta Museum does not present those logs as visitor profiles or public evidence.
02 / Analytics choices
Measurement begins only after a choice.
When Google Analytics is configured, GA4 page analytics and a small set of public-discovery events run only after this browser grants analytics consent. They measure actions such as first artwork visits, continued exploration, returns, downloads, shares, and selected support or contact-path clicks.
Support CTA and checkout-start events, research-kit checkout-start events, and sponsor and pilot contact-path clicks are interest signals, not inquiries, commitments, or revenue. The privacy choices control lets you accept, decline, or change analytics storage later; browser-local visit markers can also be cleared with site storage.
03 / Optional research participation
Separate choices for email and research.
Optional provenance email course
The free provenance checklist does not require an email address. If the optional five-part course is active and you separately opt in, Meta Museum encrypts the address, records the consent version and time, and requires address confirmation. Every message provides one-click unsubscribe; suppression stops future messages. Contact data is not placed in GA4 or public revenue evidence.
Reader study responses
The Rosenberg comprehension study runs in the browser. Answers are not uploaded or retained by Meta Museum. A participant chooses whether to download and give a pseudonymous response file to an approved facilitator. The file excludes names, email, demographics, IP addresses, and contact details; ordinary hosting logs may still record that the page was visited.
04 / Payments and contact
Transactions and conversations stay purpose-bound.
Payments: Stripe processes supporter and digital research-kit payment details under the terms shown at checkout. Meta Museum does not receive full card numbers. Sun & Rain Works retains transaction, amount, recurring status, refund, and reconciliation references only as needed for receipts, accounting, disputes, and legal duties.
Business inquiries: sponsor and institutional-pilot inquiries are retained as needed to respond, assess fit, prepare or perform a contract, invoice, and meet legal obligations. A page visit or contact-path click is not an inquiry. Public reporting uses aggregate counts and privacy-safe references.
05 / Collection and AI evidence
Evidence is retained for review, not treated as permission.
Imported collection records preserve provider attribution, source URLs, and source snapshots so their lineage can be inspected. Image and metadata rights remain source-specific.
AI features are expected to cite source records or refuse. Ordinary AI queries retain a SHA-256 question digest rather than the question text. Exact text may enter a separate evaluation log only with the explicit research-evaluation consent envelope and asserted human submission. Consent does not prove a question is genuine, approve an AI answer, or authorize publication.

No single retention promise fits every data type.
Meta Museum uses service providers only for the function described here, including hosting, consented analytics, email delivery when enabled, and Stripe payment processing. Those providers operate under their own terms and legal obligations.
Retention follows purpose: browser-local choices stay in that browser until changed or cleared; contact and transaction records may last as long as support, accounting, dispute, contract, or legal obligations require; source and review evidence may be retained to preserve an auditable research trail. Meta Museum does not claim that all copies disappear instantly from backups when a live record is removed.
